CNN notices Aamir Liaquat for “Prizing Abandoned Baby” in Live Show

Aamir Liaquat is becoming a symbol of creating controversies. Pakistani female actors like Meera, Veena and Sarah Loren were known very well for this job and now they found their male counterpart known as Aamir Liaquat.

What he did was to give an abandoned baby girl as a prize in his controversial game show. The broadcast of this show is performed 7 hours on daily basis during the holy month of Ramadan. Aamir Liaquat is a mixture of entertainer, TV host, religious scholar and many other things, which often brings controversies rather than bringing much good.

Suriya Bilqees who won this baby said that she felt shocked because she could not believe that she has been given this baby but she was extremely happy. The same show intends to give away another baby, this time a baby boy as a prize to another couple.

The show of Aamir Liaquat is known as “Aman Ramazan” and the format of the show is quite similar to “The Price is Right” with 500 audience present in the hall and they receive prizes for answering question that are related to Quran. These prizes include motorcycles, microwave ovens, washing machines and refrigerators. Cooking also takes place during the show and there is a small garden for children to play during the show. The garden is full of rabbits, snakes and goats.

An NGO known as Chhipa Welfare Association provided the baby girl. They claim that they receive about 15 abandoned babies every single month. According to the organization, their team finds babies in the garbage bins abandoned on the streets and animals injure some of these babies while others are already dead. This organization was created with the aim to keep these babies alive by providing them with a good home.

A response from CNN is not a surprise. Local humanitarian organizations and social work personalities did show their concerns regarding this act at a live show. Shamim Mahmood commented on this NGO’s Facebook page and wrote that babies are not prizes or trophies that one can handover to anyone and this act is nothing but to earn more ratings for the channel during the holy month of Ramadan.

On the other hand, Aamir Liaquat Hussain claims that this show is not run to gather rating points during Ramadan but to unify a nation that is fractured by the sectarian violence, religious intolerance and terrorism.

The topic is quite hot on social media and some think that it is a good act. If a baby is getting a home and his/her life can be transformed from being on street to a bright future, why raise fingers on the action. Others say that hundreds of thousands of babies are being adapted throughout the world but the purpose of those actions is not to get the channel’s ratings higher. Bringing the baby on live show and giving her away was purely for channel ratings and not for humanitarian purposes. In addition prizing a baby is not the way to do it. Baby is a human and not a prize to be awarded like a trophy or a certificate.
