Records-Breaking 1st ODI Pakistan vs Sri Lanka

Sohaib Maqsood and Fawad Alam anchored Pakistan to a four wicket victory in 1st ODI against Sri Lanka in Hambantota. They shared a record-breaking partnership for the 6th wicket with Fawad Alam making 62 off 61 while Sohaib Maqsood made an unbeaten 89 off 73 deliveries. Both of them came on the wicket with Pakistan 5 wickets down for just 106. Both of them stayed at the wicket and made 147 runs off just 117 deliveries.

Sohaib and Alam were not the only two to have broken the record but star all-rounder Shahid Khan Afridi broke the record of Inzimam ul Haq. This was Afridi’s 379th appearance for Pakistan in One Day International Cricket and he has broken the record of Inzimam ul Haq. Inzimam ul Haq represented Pakistan in 378 ODIs.

Not all records in this match were broken by Pakistan but Sri Lanka had their share of records as well. Both of Sri Lanka’s experienced and well-known players Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara improved their ODI records as well.

In the list of highest runs scorer 36-years old Sangakkara moved to fourth position with 12831 runs at an average of 40.34 with 19 centuries and 86 half-centuries. He has played 378 ODIs and has a best score of 169 runs. Mahela Jayawardene is 37-years old and has moved to fifth position in highest scorers list of ODI cricket. He has scored 11744 runs at an average of 32.98. He has also scored 16 centuries and 73 half-centuries and he was playing his 421st ODI. His career best score in One Day International Cricket is 144 runs.
