PTA DIRBS: All International Visitors to Pakistan Must Register their Phone’s IMEI

It is has been made clear now that all visitor to Pakistani i.e. Overseas Pakistanis must register their device’s IMEI number with PTA in their  DIRBS system. Visitors can avail this service at the airport by filling this form. This also applies to overseas Pakistanis; they must register their phones as well. Facebook blocked 25 pages in Pakistan over government’s request

For the first time ever, social networking giant have provided the information about the government’s request in getting the user’s account data. Globally, 27 percent of the rise is seen in the government requesting for user’s account data in first half of 2016 as compare to the second half of the last year. Similar to that the increase in Pakistan’s government’s requests of getting access to user’s account data in the first half of 2016 has observed a rise of 200 percent as compare to the first half of 2015. Porn Sites to Block in Pakistan – Everything You Need to Know

At the start of the running year, the rumors were around that the internet service providers (ISPs) had started blocking adult and porn sites in the country. It has now cleared that the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on the decree of the Supreme Court of Pakistan had directed the ISPs to block almost 429,343 porn and adult content based websites. Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), in association with Minister of Information Technology (MoIT), have organized 5 days professional working out training program for women on ‘Android Development & Augmented Reality’ at PTA Headquarters under ‘m-entrepreneurship for women’ program. The training program aims at equipping capable women entrepreneurs with essential skills necessary for mobile application development. Govt to Put Ban on WhatsApp, Facebook, Skype, imo Voice Calling in Pakistan

The government of Pakistan is planning to block the famous voice calling services in Pakistan. According to Dawn News, the Federal Government is thinking of putting a ban on WhatsApp, Facebook, Skype and other voice calling services in Pakistan. The decision is being taken because these calling services are offering free services in Pakistan. Successful implementation of National Action Plan (NAP) is also the major reason behind this decision. However, the final decision has not been taken yet. PTCL calls for biometric verification of EVO, Nitro till 30th Dec

In the recent drive to get on the higher security standards, PTCl has announced biometric verification of the internet devices, namely EVO, Charji, and Nitro devices before 31st December. Sources claim that this drive is the second phase of BVS under National Action Plan (NAP). As earlier this year SIM’s were verified using the biometric verification system and the SIM’s which weren’t verified were later blocked by the PTA. BlackBerry Ended Operations in Pakistan Over PTA Surveillance Demand

BlackBerry is exiting its operations in Pakistan. After November 30, BlackBerry will no longer operate in Pakistan. This is announced by the Chief Operating Officer at BlackBerry Marty Beard at the BlackBerry Blogs. PTA to Build First Internet Exchange Point in Pakistan

Pakistan telecommunication Authority in collaboration with the Internet Society-Asia Pacific (ISOC-APAC) is going to build Pakistan’s first internet exchange point for all ISPs in Pakistan to interconnect directly via exchange instead of one or more third party networks. The decision for setting up IXP was taken on the last day of INET Conference Islamabad. Some major ISPs in Pakistan are peering with each other in major cities and Pakistan Telecommunication Limited (PTCL) has also established an exchange by the name of Pakistan Internet Exchange (PIE). SC limits 5 voice SIMs and 3 data SIMs per CNIC

This year in June, famous cellular service provider company of Pakistan, Zong (CM Pak), filed a petition, requesting for removal of Supreme Court’s restriction of 5 SIMs per CNIC and asked for allowance of any number of Data SIMs per CNIC. National Assembly’s session on information and Technology increased its issues over a large number of websites being run by terrorist organizations. Tahir Iqbal, who had been chairing the conference, declared there are more than 25,000 web sites available in Pakistan which are run by terrorist organizations. Cordless Phones banned in Pakistan due to 3G Frequencies by PTA

Pakistan telecommunication Authority is working a drive to reduce the usage of cord-less phones as they affect 3G services in the country. Authority has named these cord-less phones illegal and also stated that no one should use them for their houses or offices. PTA stated that these phones are generally dumped by European countries into places like Pakistan as they had started causing interruption in 1800Mhz band that run 3G services.

Pakistan cellular companies have announced extension in date for biometric SIM verification up to April 13, 2015. According to officials, no SIM will be blocked on February 27, however, any un-verified SIM till April 13, will be blocked automatically after the expiry of extended deadline. Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) in an announcement revealed that from 1st of August 2014, no SIM can be sold or activated without biometric verification of the customer.
