(Last Updated On: 16/02/2017)

The U.K based multinational general merchandise retailer, TESCO, has announced its entrance in Pakistan. However, it has made it clear that rather than directly investing the country, it is being partnered with ALPHA Supermarkets.

With the growing middle class and purchasing power parity, multinational brands are taking it suitable to dip their toes in Pakistan. Talking to the media reports, head of new market development at Tesco, Jared Label said, “We have agreed on a wholesale partnership with Alpha Supermarkets in Pakistan, under which Tesco products will be stocked at two of its stores.”

Here is the post made by Alpha Supermarkets:

Alphas Stores aims to open at least fifty smaller express stores and four main stores stocking Tesco goods within the next three years. After the successful launch of Phase I, it will then move to invest more and open more centers in Pakistan. Fauzia Khuhro, head of business development of Limestone, holding company of Alpha Supermarkets, said that Tesco products would hit the market in upcoming ten days.

“Alpha Supermarkets will be the only retailer in Pakistan that stocks Tesco private-label products,” Khuhro said. “We will offer a complete range of Tesco product categories, from food and non-food items to frozen and fresh foods.”
