The strikes of 2nd December 2013 sure attracted the attention of the whole country. Students of Punjab University doing damage to properties, using abusive language and committing other illegal activities while all was shown on the Television sure surprised a lot the whole nation. But what was the real truth behind all this? Well everyone eagerly wanted to know and looking forward to this, Samaa’s Talk Show ‘Sixty Minutes’ Host Miss Gharida Farooqi invited respective Staff of Punjab University to reveal the real story behind all the Story.
Frankly, Miss Farooqi put a great effort for this but unfortunately after watching the whole show, the whole story couldn’t be unfolded. The guests were Professor Abid Hussain (Economic Staff), Professor Mehboob Hussain (Spokesperson) and Mr. Abdul Muqeet Nazim (Islami Jamiat Talaba) while the joining guests were the Law Minister of Punjab Mr. Rana Sanaullah Khan and Professor Naeem Ullah Khan (the current victim of whole Cosmos).
At first, it seemed that the entire show will reveal the real story but due to off the track conversation and arguments (especially between Mr. Muqeet, the Law Minister and Professor Naeem) consumed more than half of the show`s time. Starting with the inner matter of University itself, first it was rumoured that 2 female students were Sexual Harassed by their teachers, second it was believed that there were some problem with canteen Management (as well as the hostel management) and last (couldn’t be the least) the strike and doing of students.
Cutting to the chase, there were no official comments on the first suspicion although Professor Naeem did pointed out the second matter but due to shortage of time, he was unable to elaborate it. This leaves the last one, wrong actions of the student, Mister Sanallah himself claimed that the students robbed people along their way (a group of six students on a bike) hijacked a car in middle of the road and torched a public transport bus (all in the working hours). I don’t know I should point it out or not, where the heck were police authorities during all this crap.
I am not going to criticize any of it but since I was a student myself, frankly doing all of the above mentioned stuff is nearly impossible for a student (a proper student not some mob who dressed in a uniform) because first of all. A student cares about his reputation, then his organization and lastly his family`s reputation. Now forwarding with Mr. Khan’s word, they police authorities have arrested a few suspects and there were and will be presented to the court for processing. They have been charged against acts against terrorism and it was specifically pointed out that they somehow belonged to IJA.
This leads us back to Mr. Muqeet where he made a strong statement himself that the police carried out an unofficial raid to residence of many students of the university and have displayed disturbing attitude and damaged their property in the night before the strike. For this, the students showed their frustration. However showing frustration by doing damage to other’s property is not a good thing. The Law Minister supported this fact and added the students were arrested and currently are under custody on behalf of their actions.
