According to Police, 30 years old man was accused of having illegitimate relations with a 26 years old woman. Both belonged to the local tribe Mandoos. Woman was the daughter of the local tribal chief.
After getting knowledge of the relationship, woman’s family called panchayat and demanded that the man should be killed and all his property should be given to the father of the woman.
Father of the 30 years old man begged 50-man panchayat to have mercy and issue another punishment instead of the current one.
This is where panchayat decided to “vani” 9 years old niece of 30 years old man to be punished. The nine years old “vani” girl was to be married to 10 years old brother of the 26 years old woman having illicit relationship with 30 years old man.
The nine years old girl and 15 acres of land were handed over to the Mandoos family but police was informed and Seetpur Sub Inspector Abdul Shakoor led a raid and the nine years old “vani” was recovered.
Police said that FIR was registered under Child Marriage Act against 36 men and 20 of them were already arrested as many of them were hiding from police.
The FIR was registered under Sections 342, 506 B, 148 and 149 against these 36 people. Although these kinds of incidents keeps happening all the time in different rural areas of Pakistan, but to make it sure that these incidents stop, the Government must punish the criminals involved in such inhuman decisions very hard. Honor Crimes in Pakistan must be dealt with iron hands if Government really want these to stop.
