Pakistan Cricket Board resisted a lot when cricket powers were transffered to 3 cricketing nations and were named as Big 3. Big 3 concept was disliked by all cricket lovers as the game was being commericalized and power were transffered to three nations not on the basis of quality of cricket they were playing but actually powers were given to these three nations on the basis of revenue they were generating. It seemed that game has been materialized.
Pakistan along with other cricketing nations resisted the concept but somehow Big 3 came in to being. Now on 26th June 2014 it has been revealed that ICC selected Pakistan as Big 4. So Pakistan Cricket Board will get 15 percent of the revenue that will be generated in next 2 years to come. Pakistan has also been awarded 6 series with India from year 2015 to year 2023 and that means 6 series in eight years. In those 6 series Pakistan will host 4 series either in UAE or Pakistan on mutural consent and two series will be played in India.
If number one cricketing power for any reason doesn’t play those series it will be forced to pay all the money involved in those series. Its worth mentioning here that Pakistan has been selected as 4th Big power of cricket world for 2 years and its also been said that 4th power will be selected on annual basis. Pakistan has been selected as first Big 4 and for two years. Pakistan becoming part of Big 4 is a very pleasent surprise and hopefully it will bring development of cricket in Pakistan. Sources say that Pakistan has been awarded this title because Pakistan didn’t protested upon appointment of Shirinavsin as chairman ICC.
After getting rank of 4th Big power Najam Sethi Chairman Pakistan Cricket board said” he PCB had organized itself and planned to get maximum advantage for Pakistan cricket from an extremely precarious position. We have accomplished all our objectives. And I am positive that in the times to come Pakistan Cricket shall greatly benefit from what PCB has been able to obtain for it today”. Lets hope that the revenue from ICC be invested in a positive way and steps be taken to becoming Big1.
