Started with Bilal Lashari’s action thriller Waar and then Nabeel Qureshi’s comedy Na Maloom Afraad gave audience something new. Now Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy animated movie 3 Bahadur has really impressed all of us. It has been billed as first animated feature film of Pakistan and it is making a stellar run at box office while becoming highest-grossing animated film of Pakistani cinema history at the same time.
Before 3 Bahadur, Blue Sky Studio’s Rio 2 held the record and grossed about 4.5 crore. 3 Bahadur in only three weeks has already collected 4.7 crore and has beaten Rio 2 by a good margin already. Executive producer Jerjees Seja commented that
It is really great that a first ever Pakistani animated film has managed to outdo a major Hollywood franchise like Rio 2 in terms of box office

The film has been released in more than 35 cinemas and it has done well in Punjab and Sindh. Each province has contributed around 50 percent of the total box office collection. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Baluchistan are the two provinces where the film was not released.
Khurram Glutasab, general manager of the Super Cinema chain in Punjab said that
Although the film did perform well in its first week it has picked up tremendously during the last two weeks
He further elaborated and identified exams being the major reason behind lower turnout in the first week.3 Bahadur managed to keep the top position among competitors like Tanu Weds Manu Returns, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Bombay Velvet and Piku.
3 Bahadur was released three weeks ago opposite five other films but despite the stern competition, it is still running in cinemas and is doing remarkable business
3 Bahadur has managed to woo audience of all age and according to stakeholders of the film industry, this is the factor that has helped the film to become a success. 3 Bahadur attracted whole families as other movies can mostly be watched along with friends only.
India has released six animated movies to-date and none of them were as successful as 3 Bahadur which is the first animated effort in Pakistan. It obviously is a welcome sign for animation studios in Pakistan and surely they would show interest in making such movies.
Head of animation company Unicorn Black, Haroon, said that as a person, who belongs to the same industry, it is really encouraging for him to see such projects made in the country and people will follow the suit. His company is behind the TV show Burka Avenger.
He further added that Waadi Animations has produced high-quality stuff and in near future there are chances that they would produce world-class content.
Due to the success of 3 Bahadur, the makers of this film intend to release a sequel by December next year. If they could do that and the film becomes successful, many other players would jump into the scene and who knows Pakistani content can be purchased internationally.

How exciting that there’s a home-grown product our children can relate to. Also loved the way the female protagonist was handled. #3Bahadur
