The battle continued for 12 rounds but at the end Amir Khan emerged victorious. According to Amir Khan, he was not expecting such a fight from Chris Algieri.
He was very long, very slick at times. We didn’t expect him to come forward like he did. We thought he was going to be on the back foot so that way we could start putting pressure on him and breaking him down, but he showed a lot of heart in there and took some good shots and just kept coming back.
After this fight where Amir Khan was not able to dominate his opponent, his chances of fighting Floyd Mayweather are getting diminished for now. He has been challenging Floyd Mayweather for quite some time now but the answer has been negative till yet. People are speculating that since there are no credible opponents available at the moment for Mayweather after he beat Manny Pacquiao in May, Amir Khan might be next in-line for Mayweather but for the time being it is just a speculation.
Whether the fight of Amir Khan and Mayweather takes place sooner or later, it is believed that this fight is destined to happen and a vast majority of people think that Amir Khan’s presence in the same ring as Floyd Mayweather will be an achievement in itself. If he manages to handle the pressure of a bout of that magnitude and somehow wins the bout, it will give him a huge boost in his career.
After the bout, Amir Khan said that he will soon come to Pakistan to meet his fans and will work for improvement of education in Pakistan. Amir Khan’s mother was also very pleased with the victory of her son. Amir Khan visited Pakistan last year due to the incident of Army Public School.
