Pakistan cellular companies have announced extension in date for biometric SIM verification up to April 13, 2015.
According to officials, no SIM will be blocked on February 27, however, any un-verified SIM till April 13, will be blocked automatically after the expiry of extended deadline.
February 26, 2015 was the first deadline for the biometric verification of SIM but cellular companies have verified 55 million subscribers out of 103 million. “Still a lot of progress remains to be made as the turnout of subscribers having three or more SIM’s on their CNIC’s is very low,” chairman PTA.
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) at start of the SIM verification process had set the dead line of April 13, 2015 for the cellular companies for biometric verification and cellular companies have asked the subscribers to verified their pre-paid SIM till Feb 26, 2015. But now, the cellular companies have also extend the verification date up to April 13, 2015.
The SIM biometric verification system was came into force in August 2014, therefore, the SIMs registered before the system came into force would have to go through the verification process.

In the wake of December, 16, 2014 attack on Army Public School, Peshawar, the federal government has asked mobile companies to block around 500,000 illegal SIMs and verified already purchased SIMs bio-metrically.
Almost 50% of 103 millions SIM’s are yet to be verified till the new deadline that is April 13, 2015.
