The 262nd Urs of the Sindhi Sufi poet Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai (R.A) has started in Bhit Shah, Matiari District, Sindh. The three day Urs will start from today and will last till Friday November 27, 2015. The Sindh Government has announced one-day public holiday on Friday for the final day of the Urs of Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai (R.A). The notification for the holiday has been already issued by the Auqaf Department after approval by the Government of Sindh.
According to notification issued by the Sindh Govt. the public offices and educational institutes will remain closed across the Sindh province on Friday.
Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai was a great Sindhi Sufi scholar who is considered as the greatest Muslim poet of Sindhi language. The work of Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai that was collected in Shah Jo Risalo has been translated to Urdu and English languages and some other languages. According to Professor of Islamic Studies (George Washington University) Seyyed Hossein Nasr, “Shah Abdul Latif was a direct emanation of Rumi’s spirituality in South Asia.”
He was born on November 18, 1689 and died in January 1, 1752.
