One of the most prominent actress of Pakistan during the second decade of the 21st century, Mahira Khan has come with a clear statement on promoting fairness creams.
Since she is attractively gorgeous and general doesn’t utter such words which may lead to some controversy, her statement about the ‘fairness complex’ is not welcomed by many actress inside the country. She said that fairness complex is much prevalent in Pakistan and that it is beyond her understanding to why people are overwhelmed with being fair.
During an interview with BBC Urdu, the Ho Mann Jahaan leading actress said that she would not approve beauty creams since she believed that the nation is in need to break free from such obsession to become fair. She added that she does not judge people who choose for fairness creams or approves them but deny to promote that idea herself via ads.
“I don’t judge people who use or endorse fairness creams but it is dangerous when this whole concept gives you a complex. Which, I know for a fact, it does because when women talk [about girls] in our society, they ask ‘Gori hai’? what sort of a question is that?”
“I don’t know if we have a complex of being fair or whether we are just fond of fair complexion,” said the film-star.
“We have a very powerful entertainment industry, we are the media. We are watched everyday in every household. If we don’t break this concept, we will drive it in more. I have strictly decided not to do a commercial that has anything to do with fairness creams”, added the actress who will soon to be seen in her Bollywood debut Raees with Shah Rukh Khan.
