The Islamic affairs department announced the fatwa over the matter when a person posted a query at their modern fatwas section seeking that whether using other’s internet without their consent is legal or not.
IACAD responding to the query told that it isn’t allowed to use other’s WiFi without payment or without their consent. The fatwa issued by them stated, “ it is not allowed for people to use what belongs to others without payment or without their permission. Therefore, the Internet should be used only after subscribing to the service.”
They further told that, while others use WiFi illegally, that reduces the speed of the internet for the original user.
Apart from using one’s WiFi without consent is an unethical activity or is a kind of theft. Here it should be kept mentioned that using Wi-Fi at public places, where Wi-Fi is placed for public is not illegal.
Dozens of hotels, Parlors across the world offers provide free WiFi to their customers to facilitate them, in this case using Wi-Fi is a legal act.
