At the start of the running year, the rumors were around that the internet service providers (ISPs) had started blocking adult and porn sites in the country. It has now cleared that the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on the decree of the Supreme Court of Pakistan had directed the ISPs to block almost 429,343 porn and adult content based websites. However, the official order has been made by the PTA couple of days ago.
Supreme Court of Pakistan has ordered the PTA to take remedial measures to restrict the access to those websites that are totally or partly based on the immoral and illegal materials. Supreme Court in its orders has also said that this is corrupting and immortalizing the youth of Pakistan.
The official order was made by the Supreme Court on January 12th, 2016. However, PTA had sent the order to the ISPs two days ago. Banning porn websites is not something new in the Pakistan and the government for many years has been considering for the ways to do so. Many meetings were arranged between the ISPs and government officials to completely ban such type of sites. The ISPs on their turn has said that it is not easy to make the list of these websites and blocking them on urgent basis. It will take some time to implement the order properly. They have also said that these websites can although be blocked at the initial level and can be accessed by the visitors by means of a proxy. These are required to be blocked at the domain level that is a complicated and costly project. For this, they are required to get the special equipment and some time to implement it properly.
Blocking porn and adult websites is becoming very common across the globe. There are various countries in the world from developing to developed that have been continuously putting a ban on the usage of these websites. The common examples are China and India where thousands of porn containing websites are banned by the concern ISPs and telecommunication authorities.
