Uzma Zahid Bukhari, a Pakistani politician as well as a lawyer, was born on August 18, 1976, in Faisalabad Punjab Province of Pakistan. Her father, Syed Zahid Hussain Bukhari, is the former Justice in Lahore High Court. He also served as Prosecutor General Punjab.
Her early schooling is from Sheikhupura. She got a degree of Bachelors in Arts from Punjab University Lahore. She did Bachelors in Law from Pakistan College of Law and is currently practicing as a lawyer. Her father had strong political connections that helped him to initiate her political career. Uzma Bukhari is married to Sami Ullah Khan who is also a politician and served as a member of Punjab Assembly during 2002-07.
She also has two children. Uzma is an energetic woman who actively participates in political events and different social events. She frequently partakes on Television talk-shows to support her party and defend her leader’s viewpoints.
She initiated her political career by joining Pakistan’s Peoples Party (PPP) in 2002. She was nominated as Member Punjab Assembly (MPA) on the reserved seat for a woman in 2002 and remained part of assembly till 2007. Again in 2008, she was selected as a member of assembly on the reserved seat for a woman on behalf of PPP and served in the Assembly till 2013. In 2013, she left PPP and joined hands with Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N). According to her, it was very planned, quite carefully considered and good political assessment and decision to left PPP. She said,
“Current PPP is not the one she joined under the leadership of Benazir Bhutto. I expressed my concerns but of no avail”
She also served as Chairperson of “Standing Committee on Law & Parliamentary Affairs” till February 17, 2017. She has taken tours to different countries and states for different conferences including, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, Turkey, Iran, and Qatar. She paid a visit to America in 2011 as a Member of a delegation of “Indo-Pakistan Young Parliamentarians.” She also had a visit to Spain to attend “Socialist International Conference” and India to attend “SAFMA” Conference.
