Pakistan has been hit with terrorist activities in the past and this Friday it was no different. This time it was Quetta that suffered the wrath as a bomb blast at a mosque killed 3 worshippers and injured another 14. People had gathered at the mosque in order to offer the Friday prayers during the holy month of Ramadan. The blast went off before the Friday prayers with not a lot of people present in the mosque. The casualties could have been a lot higher had more people had been present at the mosque, which was not the case.
The blast took place at around 1.15 pm while the Friday prayers at the mosque were scheduled to be held at 2.15 pm. Had the blast occurred an hour later, the number of casualties could have been a lot higher. The injured in the blast included children and elderly person as well. The injured were taken to the Civil Hospital Quetta that is 15-20 minutes away from the Rehmania Mosque, where the blast took place. Right now emergency has been declared in the Civil Hospital according to sources.
More than 3,000 police officials are performing their duties at different mosques during the month of Ramadan. The Rehmania Mosque is not in the main city of Quetta and that is one reason why there were no proper security arrangements made. The blast took place near to the prayer leader with people present around him. The video footage of the site shows debris within the mosque with ceiling tiles lying on the floor. As of now, no one has claimed responsibility for the attack with the security personals investigating the whole scene. Balochistan has seen regular violence over recent years with different Baloch separatists and Taliban conducting attacks in the province.
