Pakistan is one of those countries that were very slow to adopt mobile internet technology. At a time when the world was working on the launch of 5G technology, Pakistan was launching its 3G, 4G, and LTE technology. However, people have adopted the change really quickly and Pakistan is now one of the biggest mobile internet user in the world with these numbers expected to increase even in the coming years. And the good news for Pakistani fans here is that they might get to see 5G technology sooner than expected as stated by Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry.
The Minister said that the 5G technology is on its way to Pakistan and will be soon available as well. Speaking at the launch of moon-sighting website ceremony, the minister said that Huawei has almost launched 5G service in Pakistan with the company developing the basic infrastructure for it. He said that 5G is almost launched by Huawei with people then witnessing a significant increase in the speed of the internet. 5G is going to be extremely fast and will improve the overall mobile internet experience of the users. It is expected that the data speed of 5G technology will be somewhere around 1 Gbps to 20 Gbps, about 20 times faster than the speed offered currently.
Talking about the speed of 5G technology, Fawad Chaudhry said that the movies which previously took more than an hour to download can be downloaded within 3.5 seconds. He said that the 5G technology will bring revolutionary changes in Pakistan and the youth should be aware of it. While Huawei is working hard to set 5G infrastructure in Pakistan, it was expected that the commercial use of the technology will be after 2020 as trials will be conducted for 6-12 months.
