Ever since the Imran Khan led PTI government has come to power, the political situation in the country has been quite unstable. Former Prime Minister Nawaz Shareef is already in jail with references filed against many other politicians over corruption cases. In a recent turn of events, the Islamabad High Court rejected the pre-arrest bail of Former President Asif Ali Zardari and asked NAB to arrest him. This resulted in the NAB team arresting Asif Ali Zardari from his residence in Islamabad in the presence of high-level security. Pre-arrest bail of Faryal Talpur was also rejected by the IHC, however, her arrest hasn’t taken place yet.
The arrest took place after Asif Ali Zardari went out of the courtroom without hearing the decision on his pre-arrest bail in fake account case. Once the decision was announced, the NAB team reached Zardari’s Islamabad residency to arrest him. Chairperson PPP Bilawal Bhutto and youngest daughter Aseefa Bhutto bid farewell to their father as he was taken away in a black bulletproof vehicle of NAB. Asif Zardari, for now, has been taken to the NAB office in Rawalpindi. At the time of arrests, PPP workers present outside the house were also involved in a scuffle with the police.
NAB had earlier informed the NA speaker that it is going to execute the arrest warrants that have been issued against Zardari. A 15-member team of NAB went to Zardari house to execute the arrest warrants as all roads leading to Zardari house were closed for security purposes. Soon after the arrests, the PPP announced that it will protest throughout the country against these orders with shops being closed in interior Sindh following the arrest. PPP has also called a meeting in order to discuss future legal options as well.
