Star Plus is a television channel is banned in Pakistan which is based in India. The Hindi-language channel is part of News Corporation’s Star India network. Star Plus programming comprises different shows which appeal to various audience bases such as family drama, comedy, telefilm, reality show and many more. The channel is distributed globally by Fox International Channels, a News Corporation subsidiary.
Star Plus was launched on February 21, 1992. It was based on the English language showing some content from the United States, United Kingdom and Australia. Its Hindi channel was then Zee TV. When Star ended its contract with Zee TV, Star Plus then changed to Hindi-language based and the STAR World became the English-language channel.
The channel has competitors like Sony Entertainment Television and Zee TV in the lead, and was struggling to survive. It then introduced in 2000 several new shows which stabilized its position to lead the space in Hindi general entertainment.
Currently, Star Plus is among the most-viewed television channels in Pakistan. Star Plus is also on the iPhone and iPad and the pioneer to bring the entertainment channel to the mobile device space, making the shows on the channel available to those even on the go.
People in Pakistan have local channels airing them news items but their entertainment comes from Indian channels. This is what the Indians would say that the neighboring country watch similar Bollywood films like them. The only thing that splits the two countries regarding television viewing is the news channels. That’s what separates Pakistani viewers from Indian viewers.
