Tallest building of the sub-continent was to be built in Lahore with an investment of US$ 1.2 billion by the name of Mubarak Centre. The building was planned to be completed in 2011, its foundation stone was laid on 13th May 2005 by deputy Prime Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi and MahayanMubarak Al-Nahayan who is minister for education, Scientific Research UAE. Seventy percent of the project financing was to be provided by Abu Dhabi Group. Construction of Mubarik Center would have provided 30,000 jobs in Pakistan including professionals and skilled workers.
The building would have been state of art and was to be Pakistan’s first 60 story trade centre with first 45 floors reserved for offices. The project was designed over an area of 11 Acres in middle of Lahore including 4 towers, a huge public park, 5 star hotel with four hundred rooms, conference halls accommodating more than 5000 guests at a time, 6 cineplex theaters, huge parking spaces of about 4000 vehicles and connected to Qaddafi stadium and Punjab sports complex through under pass. One of the four towers would have been 60 storey while the rest of the towers would have been 30 to 45 story. Lots of questions are being raised on current government by opposition regarding investment on the Mubarik center as the site of Mubrak center is lying idle and there is absence of progress on this mega project.
