SMS marketing in Pakistan has increased over the past few years. It is mostly become annoying as you keep receiving SMS from some of your contacts throughout the day and in the odd timings at night. 316 Billion SMS were sent by Pakistani mobile users during the year 2012-2013.
It could be your family members, friends, colleagues or just some random person trying to make you aware of the product owned by them.
For the first time Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has envisaged a policy in order to block the SMS service for those who send bulk messages at once.
News sources informed that PTA has decided that any SIM card sending more than 200 SMS within 15 minutes duration will face termination of SMS service.
Owner of the SIM will have to submit an affidavit if he/she wishes to be able to send SMS again. If violated, SMS service will be blocked forever and no other chance will be given and it will be permanent.
Customers have been complaining for a long time now about unwanted SMS being sent to them and this time PTA has taken a serious step in order to curb the SMS marketers.
As the SMS packages becomes cheaper and cheaper, it is getting more and more effective for the mobile marketers. It is much cheaper than TV channel or newspaper ad and it is much faster as within a few seconds, SMS can be received by the targeted mobile number holder. In addition, the mobile number, to which the SMS has been sent, has no choice but to receive the SMS.
It sometimes becomes so much annoying and it was need of the time that PTA takes such step. This step will be appreciated by majority of the people other than mobile marketers.
