Rashid Latif former captain and wicket keeper batsman rejected the offer of Chief selector of Pakistan Cricket Board. Rashid Latif who is well known for his boldness and is straight forward person. A country seldom see a patriot player like Rashid Latif. Rashid Latif was the first cricketer of Pakistan who raised voice against match fixing and have turned many matches in favour of Pakistan which were fixed.
One among them was a test match vs England in which Rashid was sent very down so that he have no chance of taking Pakistan home but Rashid never gave up and got that match for Pakistan. Rashid nominated many cricketer who were involved in match fixing and for that he has suffered alot in his career. Whenever he has played he has given his best.
Rashid Latif has rejected the offer of Chief selector and haven’t said a word regarding rejecting but now he has broken his silence and said that he has rejected this offer because he didn’t want to be dictated and didn’t want anybody else or director game to be involved in selecting other board members. In other words Rashid Latif rejected to be a dummy Chief selector just the way Younas Khan rejected to be a dummy captain. Some say that board itself didn’t want to pursue Rashid becuase he supported Danish Kaneria who has been banned for life time.
As he was accused to be involved in match fixing and ECB is standing strong to keep him out of cricket however Rashid Latif kept supporting him and was of the opinion that he has been victim of politics. Rashid was also not happy about interference of other boards in PCB as Rashid said that chairman cricket board told me on 26th Februaray that you support Danish Kaneria alot which means that PCB takes pressure from other boards specially after the joint venture of big three. On the basis of above reasons Rashid decided not to take the job rather than to act as a dummy Chief selector.
