ARY news host and anchor Mubasher Lucman in his program ‘Khara Sach’ accused Shaista Lodhi of committing blasphemy in her morning show ‘Utho Jaago Pakistan’ aired from Geo TV.
After that the issue escalated and countrywide protests took place. Clerics have given fatwa that watching Geo TV is haram.
Shaista Lodhi is reportedly receiving repeated death threats. After the issue came into limelight, Shaista Lodhi apologized publically on Geo TV about any offence caused to the viewers as she said that it was unintentional and inadvertent but the apology has been met with scorn and skepticism by most of the people.
Now that the anger and hate against Geo TV is increased, many employees fear for their lives and Shaista Lodhi is one of them. She has two sons and one daughter and she has said that she is not willing to risk the lives of her family. According to reports she is considering to move out of Pakistan until the situation is settled down.
Geo TV has already suspended her and the whole team of morning show ‘Utho Jaago Pakistan’ and after the show cause notice of PEMRA, an inquiry has been launched by Geo TV management in order to probe this issue.
The channel’s popular religious scholar and host Aamir Liaquat has also urged the nation to accept the apology of Shaista Lodhi and asked for the nation to forgive her and the whole team of the morning show ‘Utho Jaago Pakistan’ for their mistake but it seems that other channels want to finish Geo TV at once by highlighting the issue.
