Telenor Pakistan has announced that Biometric Verification System (BVS) has been successfully installed at all of its Sahulat Ghars throughout Pakistan.
Telenor Pakistan has been selling SIMs at all of its Sales & Service Centers and Franchises in Karachi since December 01, 2013 and had successfully completed installation of BVS for the activation of SIMs at these S&S Centers and Franchises till 19th of December 2013.
Telenor Pakistan has shown that it is technologically most advanced mobile operator in Pakistan as they started to install BVS installation at its retail outlets in Karachi and Baluchistan on 7th of March 2014 and completed the installation by 31st of March 2014.
This step was initiated by Telenor Pakistan after Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has issued a notice to all cellular operators operating in Pakistan not to issue any new SIM after 1st August 2014 without Biometric Verification of Customers.
Informative posters, standees and handing out of brochures have been carried out. Special SIM sale counters having BVS are set out to facilitate customers.
Muhammad Aslam Hayat, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer at Telenor Pakistan expressed his views as follows
We are pleased to announce that we have completed the implementation of Biometric Verification System at all our Sahulat Ghar outlets in the country to ensure higher accuracy of subscriber data. We are confident that BVS will further help us address the issue of identity theft and prevent the irregular use of cellular connections. We are once again extremely grateful to Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, Ministry of Information Technology, National Database & Registration Authority (NADRA) and Interior Ministry for facilitating this process
Not only activation or replacement of SIMs will be done through BVS but other functions like mobile number portability, change of SIM ownership and opening of Easypaisa Mobile Account will also be done through BVS.
