Noor Mohammad / Baba Ladla
5 feet 7 inches height, strong built, looking dangerous when you see him, hands normally at his back and his nick Baba Ladla seems to suit him with his current personality.
He has been heading one of the three most powerful gangs in Lyari and thus he is one of the main persons involved in Lyari gang war.
Due to the presence of Baba Ladla and two other rival groups, Lyari has been a center of criminal-related violence for quite a long time now and every now and then several people die in these gang wars.
Noor Mohammad also known as Baba Ladla was born in Kalri and he studied at government secondary boys’ school at Kalri. He is one of the most wanted gangsters these days and currently he is underground. Government has announced a prize of Rupees three million for the person who provides information about his whereabouts and gets him arrested.
Baba Ladla mocks this action of government and said that
What would the SSP do if I announced Rupees 5 million for the person who brought him to me dead or alive?
Recently on 12th of March 5 relatives of Baba Ladla were kidnapped and killed and that caused gang war outbreak but due to intervention of local leaders this time the issue was resolved soon and cease-fire was observed in Lyari.
Why people like Baba Ladla are produced? Is Baba Ladla hero or just another gangster who needs to be curbed as soon as possible? In the following paragraphs these questions will be answered.
Why people like Baba Ladla are produced?
When people are denied justice and their patience is tested beyond their control, this is the point where most of the gangsters and criminals are produced. Unfortunately this is very common in our country and majority of the criminals normally go through this process before turning into dangerous criminals who has no respect left for humanity and slowly and gradually they indulge into many heinous crimes which they would normally not perform.
Another reason is the intervention of Bollywood movies in Pakistan. There are many movies that show that a poor young man goes through a lot of troubles and finally rise in vengeance and kill every person who has committed injustice to him and his family. Mostly this role is performed by hero of the movie and in order to become hero, some people may adapt this path from where it is almost impossible to return. It is not clear what motive inspired Baba Ladla to adapt this path but surely either he is struck by injustice or he is inspired by the hero culture.
Baba Ladla Hero or Gangster needed to be curbed?
Every mind has different point of view about a situation. A freedom fighter of one person is another one’s terrorist. Same situation applies on Baba Ladla. A weed might have something useful to offer but its harms outweigh its benefits. Baba Ladla might be a hero for some of the people but due to his criminal activities and involvement in gang wars in Lyari, many innocent people die every day without even knowing why they have to die. This really is a messed up situation and Baba Ladla is present in Lyari just like a weed that needs to be curbed as soon as possible. His presence in Lyari is more harmful than beneficial. Not only Baba Ladla but all three major rival groups need to be curbed and Lyari should be cleaned from all these criminals who cause deaths of innocent people on daily basis.
