It is not the first time that a Pakistani Artists got recognition overseas especially in India. For a few years now Pakistani artist have been getting good work over there and for their work they receive various awards and nominations. Examples are Pakistani singers Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Adnan Sami and actors Fahad Mustafa and Ali Zafar etc. Infect Fahad Mustafa has received not only awards but critical acclaim as well. Recent addition in this lot is Pakistani band Soch. The band has only two members Adnan Dhool and Rabi Ahmed. They have never worked before in Bollywood and It was their debut song in Bollywood for the film “Ek Villain” which was directed by Mohit Suri and stars Shraddha Kapoor and Siddharth Malhotra. The song was titled “Awari” and it became really popular. The film received several nominations and so did the song “Awari” and band “Soch”.
They have been already nominated for Brittanie Film fare Awards, GIMA Awards and Life OK Screen awards and out of these three they have won the life ok award. Their fourth nomination is in IIfa 2015 which is considered to be India’s academy award. They are competing against some very pleasant albums like 2 States, Yaariyan and Haider the critically acclaimed film starring Shahid Kapoor, Tabu and Irfan Khan. If they win, this award it will be their second award this season for their song Awari. An interesting fact is that Awari is not a word of literature itself. It is not taken from any language but modified from the word Awara for the need. As they mentioned in their interview in 2014.
“Awari, to be honest, is no word – it does not exist in Urdu, Hindi or Punjabi vocabulary. The actual word is Awara, which is used for both genders. The word ‘awari’ was coined by us just for the song. It was basically a shout-out to our society to speak up for girls who, for various reasons, are pushed into the gruesome profession of adultery.”
A great and deep Soch from the band “Soch”we must say. Our best wishes are with them, may they win this one also and make us proud.
