The trailer of music documentary ‘Song of Lahore’ is out, the documentary film is co-directed by Academy Award winner Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy and Andy Schoken.
Song of Lahore unfolds the struggle of Izzat Majeed,whose effort played pivotal role in reviving back the Pakistani music on screens. The documentary shows how the terrorism played path in restricting Lahore from its natural heritage and culture. Pakistani instruments which were quite popular around the region, a time came when they become extinct as the makers of this music were threatened and were forced to keep themselves away from practicing music.
Earlier, the Pakistani music industry revolved around musical instruments like Tabla, flute and Harmonium but after a hiatus in producing music from these instruments, this resulted as domination of western and modern instruments in the region and even in the Pakistan itself.
The story of the musical documentary tells that how the terror afflicted people were abandoned from music but then a person, Izzat Majeed reunited the music passion and urges the musicians to carry on with their talent, his endeavor resulted as formulation of Sachal Studios. The band at its beginning focused all on its traditional classic music but later the idea which made them the worldwide sensation was their rendering of Dave Brubeck’s famous “Take Five”. The best thing in reprise of famous track was that they fused classical music with Jazz music for which they gained huge success.
The worldwide premier of the film was released on April 18, 2015 at the Tribeca Film Festival and now the limited release is scheduled for 13th November 2015.
