The government of Pakistan is planning to block the famous voice calling services in Pakistan. According to Dawn News, the Federal Government is thinking of putting a ban on WhatsApp, Facebook, Skype and other voice calling services in Pakistan. The decision is being taken because these calling services are offering free services in Pakistan. Successful implementation of National Action Plan (NAP) is also the major reason behind this decision. However, the final decision has not been taken yet.
Earlier, the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) in a meeting presided by the Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has approved the Telecommunications Policy 2015 under the providing of Pakistan Telecommunication (Re-organization) Act, 1996 (Amended 2006). Now it is mentioned in this new policy for 2015, the government has mentioned putting ban on free voice calling services.
The Telecommunication Policy 2015 will be publicized soon. Moreover, that voice calling services who wants to carry on their services are required to take the licence of million rupees from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA). After getting a licence from the PTA, these will be bound to follow the rules and regulations of PTA and law enforcement agencies.
