Punjab Government is striving to promote culture of education in the province. To make this dream come true, Daanish Schools System, Punjab Educational Endowment Fund (PEEF), Punjab Education Foundation (PEF), Punjab Education Sector Reform Program (PESRP) and various upgrading schemes have been launched by the Government of the Punjab.
With an aim to provide quality education to the far flung and backward regions of the Punjab, Punjab Government is going to establish a full faculty information technology university in Rahim Yar Khan. The decision of setting up IT university in the area announced by the provincial Education Minister Rana Mashood. Speaking to a delegation of university teachers from southern Punjab areas, Education Minister said that the construction of the IT university in Rahim Yar Khan by the name of Khawaja Fareed University of Engineering and Technology will promote the education in the region.

The classes at the university would start by 2018. Khawaja Fareed University of Engineering and Technology was the initiative taken by Chief Minsiter Punjab Shahbaz Sharif in 2014. The university was established in 2014 and would be complete by 2018. Total estaimated cost of the university is Rs. 3.84 billion.
After successful completion, four bachelor;s degree program in engineering and technology will be offered. These four programs are:
- Bachelor of Science Electrical Engineering (B.Sc EE)
- Bachelor of Science Mechanical Engineering (B.Sc ME)
- Bachelor of Science Computer Science (BS CS)
- Bachelor of Science Information Technology (BS IT)
It is also the plan of the Punjab Government to upgrade the program to master level in future. “With the establishment of the KF-UEIT, the students from Bahawalpur division would no longer need to travel far away from their homes to get quality higher education”, said Rana Mashood.
