The Chief Executive Officer of Alfalah GHP Investment Management, Maheen Rahman, stood at 5th position in the list of ‘Top 40 Under 40’s Female Executives’ by Fortune. Maheen Rahamn has been already declared as the ‘Best Money Manager in Pakistan’.
Previous to joining IGI funds (later on merged into Alfalah GHP Investment Management Limited in October 2013), she was on the position of Head of Business Development at IGI Securities that was the brokerage department of IGI Financial Services. In past, she has also worked on the position of Head of Research at BMA Capital Management. The past career of Maheen Rahman is attached with various investment and financial firms that are Investment Bank Group of Merril Lynch, ABN Amro and on several equity easing and IPO transactions across South East Asia.
Commenting over listing the Maheen Rahman in the list of Top 40 Under 40’s Women Executives, Fortune remarked, “The Karachi-based money manager is not only the youngest head of a Pakistani asset management company, but also the only woman. Her stellar performance has led to an increase in client assets of about 40% this year, and she continues to break glass ceilings in one of Asia’s most male-dominated economies.”
In an interview to Bloomberg on March 19, 2015, Maheen Rahman said, “she deliberately limits smiling and keeps proper distance between herself and others at work. She also said she makes sure to put her handbag in the exact right place when she sits down. A mother of three, Rahman also faces the challenge of juggling work and parenting.”
Replaying to a question to Bloomberg why she doesn’t design clothes, “My biggest challenge has been building a reputation and trust in a market that values grey hair and being male,” said Rahman, who oversees the equivalent of $180 million in stocks and bonds as the CEO of Alfalah GHP Investment Management Ltd. in Karachi.”
“After all these years, I still routinely get asked why I don’t just design clothes”, she added.
Education of Maheen Rahman
Ms. Rahman has BS (Honors) degree from LUMS and she is Master in Finance and Economics from Warwick Business School in the UK. She also holds a Series 7 qualification from the New York Stock Exchange.
