Patrols are required to undertake a number of ‘tasks’ on their route, each testing a different aspect of soldering e.g. Map reading, first aid and casualty evacuation, recognition of aircraft, vehicles and equipment and a tactical river crossing. Each patrol is set within the context of a narrative which often involves teams having to traverse enemy territory, interact with friendly and not so friendly civilians or militia groups. Patrols are tested on everything they encounter on the route during a debrief upon reaching the finishing point.
Points are added or deducted depending on time and conduct whilst on the patrol and medals or certificates are awarded depending on score. Exercise Cambrian Patrol is one of the most challenging and rewarding exercises one can partake in and is the closest thing to Special Forces selection many people will experience.
Exercise Cambrian Patrol consists of teams that consists eight men who patrol across some unforgiving terrain. Exercise Cambrian Patrol is the test of leadership, determination, weapons usage skills, physical endurance, courage, leadership and self-discipline. The target is to arrive at a rendezvous with focusing on keeping all equipment all the time. In case of missing equipment, points will be deducted from the total. The award for the winner is awarded in four distinctions only that are in shape of medals including gold medal, silver medal, bronze medal and simple passing distinction. Most of the teams failed in this exercise test.
