Poverty and load-shedding are two genuine problems of Pakistan that has unarguably set the nation on back foot. Majority of the things are not cheap in Pakistan but there are some which are cheapest than many developed countries of the world. Mobile Internet is one such department in which Pakistan has beaten almost all other nations of the world other than one.
According to a Russian Research agency “Content Review”, there are only 8 countries in the world having mobile Internet priced below $3/GB and Pakistan is one of them. Iran has topped this list; Pakistan has occupied 2nd position while Russia is third in the list. In Iran the price of 1 GB mobile Internet data is $0.2 (approx. 20 PKR) while inPakistan the price of 1 GB mobile Internet is $1 (approx. 100 PKR). In Russia it is $1.7, in Indonesia it is $1.8, in Sweden it is $2, in Great Britain it is $16.1, in Venezuela it is $21.2 and in Algeria it is provided at a rate of $29.4 / GB. A comprehensive list of mobile Internet prices in various countries of the world is given in the image below.
The prices might be World’s lowest in Pakistan but it is a fact that the telecom industry is still evolving in Pakistan and it will take some years before the quality of mobile Internet can be matched with countries like Great Britain and United States. Similarly the data prices are average and Pakistan has only 3G and limited exposure of 4G mobile Internet at the moment. The quality is not as satisfactory as it is in Great Britain and United States so the prices are low to counter the quality of the services.
