Born on August 15, 1919, Dina Wadia is the only child and daughter of the Founder of Pakistan Quaid e Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Her original and complete name is Stanley Wolpert’s Jinnah as per Pakistani record.
Quaid e Azam wants the upbringing of her only child as per Islamic teachings. According to Bradbury, the chauffeur of Quaid e Azam, Quaid asked her sister Fatima Ali Jinnah to teach her and teach her about The Holy Quran and Islam.
Still many people in Pakistan are unaware of the fact that the relationship of Deena Wadia with her father never remained normal after the wedding of Deena Wadia with a Parsi-born Indian. Deena Wadia decided to marry Neville Wadia and from there the relationship between father and daughter became strained. According to Quaid e Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah Personal Assistant Mahommedali Currim Chagla, “Jinnah, in his usual imperious manner, told her that there were millions of Muslim boys in India, and she could have anyone she chose. Reminding her father that his wife (Wadia’s mother Rattnabai), had also been non-Muslim, a Parsi also coincidently, the young lady replied: ‘Father, there were millions of Muslim girls in India. Why did you not marry one of them?’ And he replied that ‘She became a Muslim.”
Dina Wadia is now living in London, United Kingdom. His husband Neville Wadia died on 1996. Her only one child and son is Nusli Wadia, who is the Chairman of Wadia Group. Jinnah met the Nusli Wadi and his two sons in Bombay 1946. His grandson Nusli Wadi liked his Jinnah cap that was then gifted by Jinnah to him.
Dina visited two-times Pakistan; first at the death of Muhammad Ali Jinnah and then in 2004 that was her second and final visit to Pakistan. She came in Lahore, Pakistan in 2004 to watch Indo-Pakistan cricket match with her grandsons Ness and Jehangir Wadia.
