In remembrance of martyrs of Karbaala like every year 9th & 10th Muharram are announced as public holidays in Pakistan.
This year Ashura (9th & 10th Muharram) will be falling on 11-12 October, 2016.
Government issued notification of two holidays over the occasion on, Tuesday and Wednesday 9th and 10th Muharram.
Incident of Karbaala revolves around sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain Ibn-e-Ali (R.A) and his family. Hazrat Hussain was the grandson of last prophet of Islam Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), even belonging from a highly-obliged Islamic family, he choose to roll his superiority as following Allah’s order.
On 9th and 10th of Muharram it is holiday in public and governmental sector in Pakistan as various events are organized to pay tribute to the Islamic heroes. This sacrifice is always being remembered, not only by Muslims as Non-Muslims are also persuaded with the mighty sacrifice of whole family of Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH).
The whole month of Muharram especially 10th (also called Day of Ashura or Youme Ashura) has equal importance in the eye of Sunni and Shia Muslims. Many Muslims fast during these days especially on the last 8th, 9th and 10th Muharram on the instructions of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The 10th of Muharram is part of Mourning of Muharram for Shia Muslims.
Processions, Niyaz, Mataam, Noha Khawani and Mehfils are the most common way adopted by Muslims to acknowledge devoutness of the martyrs of Karbaala.
