Meesha Shafi is a popular name in the world of the music industry. She is liked by the youth for her outclass performance. Her presence on the stage is itself a great thing. She has always been in limelight. The current sexual harassment case has made her really popular. After this, her refusal to accept the nomination in the Lux Style Awards has made her even more popular. The news is taken as a major challenge to the awards as a day later the popular fashion diva Saima Bargfrede refused to attend the most awaited event of the year. Meesha has thanked those who have refused to be part of this and she says this support of her notion is overwhelming for her.
Meesha stated that she has done all this in order to propagate that security and safety are the basic rights of every woman. Being in the world of entertainment does not mean that anyone can harass you or exploit you. It is not just a matter of award but actually, it is a matter of rights and honor. Being away from the awards is not a threat to anyone’s performance. People will love you and respect you for what you are and not just for the awards.
Meesha also introduced her recent number Mein which according to her is all about self-exploration. This song highlights the purpose of living. Meesha further states that the culture of staying silent on injustice must be put to an end. Injustice can be stopped only if the voice is raised. Meesha is heartbroken over the fact that she strived hard to fight back against her harassment on the hands of the other popular singer but she is still looking for someone to do justice to her.
About her track nominated for Best Song, she elaborates,
“‘Mein’ is a song about finding our true self. Being aligned with a higher purpose. Being our own hero and being enough. I wrote it at a particularly difficult time in my life. When I needed to be all those things.”
She ends her note by saying,
“‘Mein’ stands nominated for the best song at the Lux Style Awards 2019. The irony is not lost on me given the current circumstances and I would kindly request that my name and work be removed from the list of nominees.”
To all concerned. #LSA2019 🙏🏼 pic.twitter.com/nfoHUlTf4W
