HEC directed all the universities to use Urdu as official language in all sort of correspondence, under the circular issued by the Federal Government.
The universities/institutes are asked to translate all their statues, circulars, all the significant content and even their websites in Urdu, as per directions.
The universities are instructed to follow the directives by September 15, 2015.
The circular reads: “As per Article 251 of the constitution of Pakistan, Urdu is the national language of Pakistan, and government is responsible for it being used for official and other purposes. Upon instructions of Supreme Court of Pakistan, the prime minister of Pakistan has approved a frame work to translate of the key contents of government into Urdu in three months. Hence the recipients are also directed to take appropriate steps for the implementation of the framework,” the Government of Pakistan along with it took several other steps to implement Urdu as official language.
Article: 251 National Language
(1) The National language of Pakistan is Urdu, and arrangements shall be made for its big used for official and other purposes within fifteen years from the commencing day.
(2) Subject to clause (1), the English language may be used for official purposes until arrangements are made for its replacement by Urdu.
(3) Without prejudice to the status of the National Language, a Provincial Assembly may by law prescribe measure for the teaching, promotion and use of a provincial language in addition to the National Language.
