Communication in National language is always a huge thing and usage of Urdu is on the rise. Good news is that now those of you who are fond of communication in Urdu language will be able to communicate on Whatsapp in Urdu. The Urdu version of Whatsapp is going to be available really soon on iOS and Android app stores.
Whatsapp is replacing SMS at a rapid pace after the introduction of 3G and 4G technologies in Pakistan. Although most of the users still use Roman Urdu but a dedicated version of Whatsapp will be more than welcome and will make its place really soon. People from Rural areas who don’t know English very well will particularly benefit from Urdu version of Whatsapp.
Ahsan Saeed, translator administrator for this project said that
I translated 753 strings and moderated 2089 strings in less than 3 months and made Urdu 18th language in which Whatsapp for Android has been fully translated.
It was impossible without the help of volunteer translators who put their efforts just for the love of Urdu.
Without a shadow of the doubt, this action will increase market share of Whatsapp in Pakistan and telecom industry will have to face low-SMS situation with every passing month. SMS rate has already dropped this year on Eid for the very first time in the history of Pakistani Telecom.
It is just a matter of time when SMS will be rarely used and online applications like Facebook Messenger app and Whatsapp will take control of 90% of Pakistani SMS market.
