Muhammad Iqbal or Allama Iqbal was the great poet, politician and philosopher of the history of sub-continent. Other name of Iqbal are: Shair-e-Mashriq (Poet of the East), Mufakkir-e-Pakistan (The Thinker of Pakistan), and Hakeem-ul-Ummat (The Sage of the Ummah). Iqbal is known as the inspiration behind Pakistan Movement that resulted in the Independence of Pakistan. If talk about Urdu literature then two authors can’t be removed from the history of Pakistan that are Mirza Asadullah Ghalib and Allama Iqbal. Most of his literary work in Urdu and Persian languages.
The scholars of literature admired the Allama Iqbal for his notable work for the Muslims of the sub-continent. His admirer are from Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and from other international platforms. Most of the people think that Iqbal was only the eminent poet but the fact is that he was the highly recognized and acclaimed “Muslim philosophical thinker of modern times”.
First book written by Iqbal was a poetry book named Asrar-e-Khudi (1915). This books was in Persian language. In 1922, he was given the title of ‘Sir’ by King George V.

Once he arrived late in class and his teacher asked, “Why are you so late?”
Iqbal replied confidently, “Sir, iqbal (prosperity/success) always comes late.”

Iqbal in his entire life work for the freedom of his nation. He always motivated the youngsters by spreading the message of Khudi (self). He used the term Khudi as a synonymous of the word ‘Rooh’ described in the Quran.

In his Soviet biography N. P. Anikoy wrote:
“Iqbal is great for his passionate condemnation of weak will and passiveness, his angry protest against inequality, discrimination and oppression in all forms i.e., economic, social, political, national, racial, religious, etc., his preaching of optimism, an active attitude towards life and man’s high purpose in the world, in a word, he is great for his assertion of the noble ideals and principles of humanism, democracy, peace and friendship among peoples.”
The Supreme Leader of the Iranian Revolution, Ayatollah Khamenei said about Allama Iqbal, “Quran and Islam are to be made the basis of all revolutions and movements’, Iran was ‘exactly following the path that was shown to us by Iqbal.”
Ali Shariati, a prominent person of Iranian Revolution “described Iqbal as a figure who brought a message of “rejuvenation”, “awakening” and “power” to the Muslim World.”
