For the second time in the history of Pakistan, Canadian-based Pakistani filmmaker and activist, Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy has secured the Oscars award for her document film named A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness.
Sharmeen Obaid is the first and only Pakistani two win two Oscars. Just like her past documentary Saving Face, Sharmeen has again presented the documentary in favor of Pakistan women and raised the issue of honor killings in Pakistan. The new documentary movie of Chinoy has earned critical acclaim across the Pakistan. It is not the Oscars only for the A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness; the documentary has earned the other awards and applauded by many in the category of Documentary Short Subject.
Honor killing is the burning issue in Pakistan and same is depicted by the Chinoy in her documentary. The story is about an eighteen-year-old girl who became the victim of honor killing by her village.
At the moment of receiving the one of the most prestigious Oscar Awards the words of the Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy was, “The power of being nominated for an Academy Award really does mean for a country like Pakistan that you can change laws.”
This time, Pakistan Government has also officially supported the cause of the Sharmeen Obaid. A special event in the Prime Minister House was organized and the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was the chief guest of the event.
Well the winner of the day has officially recognized the support of her fans and follower by posting over social media platform.
