The Federal Government under its Prime Minister’s Youth Programme has taken a new initiative titled Prime Minister’s Electric Wheelchair Scheme. Under the umbrella of PMYP, five hundred electric and motorized wheelchairs will be distributed among the special students of the recognized universities so that they can continue their study without facing disability issue.
According to HEC,
“The main objective of the scheme is to empower special students having an ambulatory disability and enable them to equally contribute to economic development of the country besides institutionalizing inclusive development – leaving no one behind; so that each one of us participates in national development process equally with dignity and self-pride. The Scheme is aligned with the Target 4.5 of United Nation’s Standard Development Goals (SDGs) i.e. “By 2030, eliminate gender disparities in education and ensure equal access to all levels of education and vocational training for the vulnerable, including persons with disabilities, indigenous peoples, and children in vulnerable situations.”
